Amsterdamize Classics : 1910 - 1930

This is the next part of my Amsterdamize Classics serie, covering the (visual) history of cycling in Amsterdam from 1895 to the present, using the online image library of the Amsterdam City Archive.
Today we embark on those troubling (mostly ‘interbellum‘) years from 1910 to 1930.

Go to the photoset to see them all and the descriptions.

Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

Hi Marc - I don’t see a wartime and immediate postwar (rebuilding) category, so I’m sending this to you here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nationaalarchief/2948562043/in/set-72157608106310116/

Cartoon about saving bicycle wheels/tires. I like how the portly, elderly lady has her handbag on her handlebar in a way I’ve seen modern Dutch women (many much younger and more svelte, but also contemporary elderly women who would have been teens then) doing.

Of course back then it would never have occurred to the husband to do the shopping himself. Fortunately times have changed.

Hi Maria, thanks for that, but I subscribed to that last week, after it had just come out! You and I have our eyes on the right/same stuff, huh?

    Will be cherry picking soon!
