A Family Weekend On Texel

On the first weekend of July I visited my parents who were vacationing on the island of Texel with their grandkids. This treasure of the north of the lowlands is also excellent for cycling, so I took my bike on the train & ferry and oozed off for an unwinding long weekend. Check it out.

Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

Hyggelig to the extreme! I was thinking I needed a vacation this morning and now I feel like I have been on one. Loved the shot with Grandpa, the dog, and grandchild with the loving hand on the back as they bike.

Really well done - I am thinking Academy Award material - one of the best movies of the year. :)

ha! Thanks, Sigrid :). I tried to approach the subjects in the most natural way (”Imagine the camera is not here”), hehe.

Btw, when Marie was here, halfway our tour we had lunch downtown on a terrace and I said: “Quite hyggelig, not?” She concurred, and after checking with me whether I knew what it REALLY meant, she agreed the Dutch word for it, ‘gezellig’, means exactly the same. How’s that for crossing cultural borders? ;)

I love these videos so much ! You inspired me to try making one of my own, more to show the contrast than anything else. Someday, I will get to Amsterdam and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to bike it vicariously through your videos. Here is mine, for a not-too-bike-friendly view. Hope it is okay to leave the link here.

wow, Cordelia, I’m honored! You did very well mounting the camera. I applaud your commute, no easy venture! Keep dropping those links, any time. If you like, you can register on this blog (go to bottom of homepage) and contribute those posts too.
