Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

After stirring up quite the conversation about using cell phones while cycling earlier this week (thanks for that, my dear cyclelicious ones!) I thought I’d tickle your senses a bit more today. Specifically, Les’ & Helen’s, as they’ll be arriving in da Dam in two weeks from now to tour the Netherlands for a few weeks.

These are my leftover photos from Monday’s shoot on Rozengracht. I’ll say it again, for all you new to this blog: just people, doing their thing, in normal clothes, on normal bikes, going about their way, as they do, peacefully sharing the road with everything else on wheels, day in, day out. Not for the environment, not to make a political statement, not to safe on gasoline, not to be part of some (hip) tribe, not to loose those extra pounds, not for leisure. No, just because it’s the most practical way to get around town and beyond. Best of all, it’s just plain fun. Any benefits besides that are a bonus. Join us :-p.

    I could show up wearing my helmet (if you like). I suspect (though) that you would probably avoid eye contact etc…..

    Bikes everywhere! They seem to rule.

    Really enjoyed the photos.

    @Les: you tease :)

    @Helen: thanks and true, they do. Doesn’t it feel good to come visually prepared? :-p

    I feel like we are there Marc. Then I look out the window. Ottawa is not a bad spot. But the amazing cycling activity in Amsterdam really sets the scene so to speak. We just don’t have it here. Ho Hum…….
