Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

As I mentioned and showed in my previous post, I went to the Uitmarkt on Saturday to see a few highlights of the upcoming 2008/2009 cultural season. After a few hours, I reckoned it was such a beautiful day, too nice to just sit on my ass, have a beer and wait for the next act (yeah, that’s really aweful).

So I decided to get myself out of Dodge, cycle south (there’s only one way, lol) along the Amstel River to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, clearing myself from that bubbly and busy town. Also a golden opportunity to show you a quiet spot is only a stone throw away, so to speak.

Go to the ‘Amsterdam Exit’ photoset or watch the slideshow full screen:

‘Amsterdam Exit’ (11:39 min), and go to Amsterdamize Bicycle TV to watch this and every other video posted on Amsterdamize, for your viewing pleasure!
I shot the video with my phone camera, so any quality issues you have are well founded ;-p.

    Hi Marc,

    Thanks for posting those pics, they brought back a few memories of going down the same route many years ago. Now I’m really envious!

    The first time I lived in Amsterdam I shared a ratbike with my then Dutch girlfriend’s(another story!) brother….it had a bell that was just the dome, no ringer or pinger. The spanner to adjust things was attached to the handlebars by a long piece of string, and acted as the hammer for the bell. It made a lovely loud noise if hit hard enough, which happened a lot…:-)

    Thanks for the great images Marc. I did note one fellow wearing a helmet. Was that an error on your part? LOL

    The video is excellent. It gives one the feeling that they (me) are actually there with you.

    Thanks!

    @Allen: that’s hilarious, but not surprising :)

    @Les: you mean that guy wizzing past on that racer, wearing lycra, during the weekend? As if I would edit that out, knowing you are watching! :)

    Thanks!
