Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

Before joining a small company reunion, I stood at the curb and flipped out my HD video camera…to shoot some photos, as it was about time for new ones.

As it was around 6 P.M. (the start of rush hour) you will see cyclists all over the place, very much more so than cars, buses or trams. Going home from work, or going home from the supermarket after work, or going home from the supermarket having picked up the kids after work, or going downtown to a restaurant, or to do that last minute shopping, or going home from that getting that appliance, or visiting friends, or taking the kids to see grandmother, or taking that last business phone call, or calling friends to ask where to meet up, or going to the gym…

Well, you get the idea. For newcomers (and I know there are quite a few of you, welcome!): ‘everyday people’ means people in normal clothes, on normal bikes, doing normal things (or abnormal, depending on how bicycle-friendly your town, city or country is). Don’t be shocked, these are not all irresponsible folks because they or their kids don’t wear helmets or other non-protective gear… *snark*. Hell, even the cycling tourists feel safe enough without them.
Here’s one preview:
Everyday People
Have a look below (after pressing ‘play’, hit the arrowed button in the bottom right corner to go full screen) for more. If you’re a traditionalist, go to my ‘Everyday People’ photoset.

Quite colorful, mesmerizing, peaceful and appealing, n’est pas? Try it, you’ll feel so much better. :-p

Marc - Remind me to tell you about Boston and the way they commute by bike there - NOT.

I grabbed some quick vids whilst there this week

After another look, I have more comments (LOL):

    * the pics of the fathers with their kids on their fiets are especially good. I think the GQ guy with the baby in front and toddler behind is priceless.
    * You continue to have an adeptness at capturing pics of beautiful women on bikes (what’s with that?) - ;-)
    * The flow of people and fiets is amazing. It reminds me of the video I posted from Hanoi
