Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

Another (beautiful) day, another “time to stop and shoot up with the mobile phone before continuing on my ride to where I have to go” moment. In this case, 2 moments actually, one at the draw bridge, waiting for a ship to pass and a second moment, stopping on the bridge that crosses the Prinsengracht at the connecting junction of both the Brouwersgracht and the Korte Prinsengracht (’gracht’ is ‘canal’ in Dutch). Here’s the map of where I was coming from and where I stopped (the bridge between point B and C) and ended up stopping at a junction (point D):

Speaking of being on the move, tomorrow morning I’ll be picking up Ottowa/Cyclemania’s Les & Helen from Schiphol Airport, as they’ll embark on their 2 weeks cycling adventure in the Netherlands. We’ll spend the weekend together, I’ll show them around and we’re going to pick up their new Azor rides at Henry Cutler’s Workcycles shop on Saturday. You can guess how excited they are. By the way, these fanatic ‘Canucyclists’ left their helmets and lycra gear at home. I or Amsterdamize had abso-cycle-lutely NOTHING to do with that…:-p.

Update: the Canadians have landed, I repeat, the Canadians have landed.

Nice photos and it looks like you get to enjoy a lot of social opportunities on your commutes. I really like the ones of the Dommelsch Bler(sp). That looks like a nice place to relax with friends.

hi Biker Bob (excellent handle :)), thanks! Oh, it’s so hard to resist all the opportunities, haha.

The cafe is ‘Cafe Tabac‘, which basically translates into ‘Cafe Tabacco’ (although it’s spelled differently now). Dommelsch is the main type of beer (lager) they serve, alongside more exotic/local ones. It is indeed one of the many old/quaint/mellow cafes you can crash at. The peeps you see in the pics are mainly people meeting up for drinks after work (lots of suits and smart dresses).
