Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

Today gave me another opportunity to take some photos. My second journey across town took me to that enormous new office building to the east of the city, called INIT, to meet with a client. It was around 11:30, not too much traffic, so even easier than usual to whip out my phone camera along the way.

It’s a bit cooler these days, but with plenty of sunshine, it’s still very pleasant, putting a big smile on my face. I clearly noticed that we put the tourist season behind us, only encountering one group of ‘yellow ducklings’ on the Nieuwmarkt. Actually, the Nieuwmarkt is the place I stopped after my meeting. Before heading home, I sat down on a bench and shot another (huge) set of photos, which selection I will save for a new post later this week, but will be coined ‘Colorful Cycle Chic’. I’m really happy how they turned out. Good fun.

Below you’ll find my ‘Autumn Cycle’ shoot. For the sake of ambiance, I set my phone camera to black and white. Go here if, for some odd reason, you don’t like full screen photo slideshows…:-p

    Ahhh…. another opportunity to day dream. Thank you. Really like the photos in b/w and love the close up shot of the employee bicycle handlebars - BEautiful. That is one for framing!

    The thing about blogging - it makes you appreciate the small things in your everyday - a business trip made fun. :)

    To think, this is from your phone camera - wow.

    Beautiful photos! Thankyou again!

    I like the pics from the Westergracht - it would be so much nicer if the Gemeente made it car free

    Also I hope to find myself in your photos one day (especially with the Wunderkind on the the bike). I cycle up and down the Jordaan several times a day - hope I bump into you!

    Are you having a Car-Free Day Special Edition? Anything the local Amsterdamize readers can help with?

    @Sigrid: I appreciate it every day, thanks, and it’s no trouble at all. It’s just the first time I mention the purpose of my ride and consequential pictures…it’s like that with at least 50% of my rides ;-p

    @Wilma: see above *grin*

    @Adam: welcome to my humble blog! Funny how you call it ‘Westergracht’, I’ll do that from now on, as well. I’m all for it, same for other streets-formerly-known-as-grachten that have been considered for revamping over the years.
    It’s hardly unimaginable that you (and Wunderkind) aren’t already in one of them..:-p. If not, we can certainly make that happen.
    Yes! I am covering Autovrije Dag/Car-Free Day. In itself good enough already, but of course there are lots of events (over 100 I believe) organized to create a string of bloc(k) parties. I would love it if my readers would do what they planned to do on Sunday and record what they see, their perspective…and perhaps share it with Amsterdamize. Absolutely, that would be great. If not, I’ll still be covering lots and lots of square km’s on my own :-p

    cheers, Marc

    Sigrid, gotta be honest with you :)..two of the pictures (of the bike parking) I shot with my HD video camera, as my phone couldn’t handle what I wanted. Still got some good ones with the Nokia of the same scene, but I obviously preferred these and put them in.

    Thanks for your honesty. :) It’s still a good shot regardless.

    I’ll be out and about on Sunday and will snap a few shots… I love Car Free Days. Best one was in Brussels in 2005 (normally not a great bike city).

    Doh, I meant Westerstraat, but I always forget. Should be a canal again, just like Palmgracht (where I used to live).

    I really like your blog. Keep it up!

    @Sigrid: thank you :-p

    @AdamD: having the city coming even more to life like that is indeed awesome. I’d have Car-Free Day every friggin’ weekend.
    Westerstraat, don’t worry about, if I were you I’d keep making that ‘mistake’, mention is as often as possible. I’d love to see those changes happen, too. Thinking about working on a new Amsterdamize Classics post regarding that.

    Cheers, I’ll certainly keep it up, lots of things happening with this blog. It seems cycling is really ‘hot’ these days ;-p
