Wilma from Spokane, Washington again delights us with an excellent bike-view recording of going down one if its beautiful trails:

The part of the trail that I filmed is on the Coeur d’Alene Indian Reservation. This trail goes almost border to border, across the northern part of the state of Idaho (northwest corner of the U.S.) It is an old railroad bed that was so polluted with heavy metals from the mining industry that it had to be capped. That was done with asphalt, and created a very beautiful cycling path. No motorized vehicles are allowed on it, and because it is a railroad bed, the grades are very gentle. The first part is steadily downhill for 5 miles. You can see a cyclist laboring past me near the beginning of the film. She must not have been in good shape. I positively flew up that hill, and had to stop several times, to allow my husband and daughter to catch up with me!

What you can’t see in the video, is the many bear droppings that we encountered along this trail. It was quite late in the afternoon (which is why there aren’t too many people), and it made me just a little nervous about getting too far separated from my family! I didn’t see any bears, but we did see deer and turkeys, and of course squirrels and other small birds.

Thanks, Wilma, your videos are beautiful and executed very well, I’m glad I got you hooked on this ;-p.

  • Your Coeur d'Alene connection is great, Scott. Speaking of connections...kinda cool how this sort of thing happens, that Spokane-Amsterdam-Washington media trail? :-p
  • yes... I must have missed the other Spokane post. But then again... Coeur d'Alene--and especially that trail would catch my attention a lot more than a post from Spokane. I went to school not far from there at the University of Idaho in Moscow.

p.s. I remember having to make a distinct effort to learn how to properly spell Coeur d'Alene when planning my wedding to be there. I don't think I'll ever forget! :)
  • Excellent, Wilma, as long as we're having fun, that'll do :-p

I never ever imagined any thread on this blog to be about bear droppings. *grin*
  • Wilma
Indeed I'm hooked, both on cycling, and filming! There are so many lovely places to do both! Thanks for the kind words, and the continued inspiration.

p.s. Les, some of the bear evidence was quite substantial, and what was more impressive, was how many places we saw it!!!
  • Spokane is represented well on Amsterdamize by now, Scott, I guess you missed the first one!

    All kudos to Wilma, indeed.

Ps. thanks for the correction, fixed it!
  • That's boasting, Les, I thought Canadians didn't practice that :-p
  • Great to see something from our part of the world! (I married my beautiful wife in Coeur d'Alene) I had to do a "double-take" when looking at Amsterdamize in my feed-reader and saw "Contribution: Trail Of The Couer d’Alenes"

I do have to mention the spelling error in the headline though. It is spelled correctly down below--just not in the headline.

Thanks for getting this posted, Wilma!
  • Les
That could be Canada! Except our bear "droppings" are bigger (need I boast?).

    Great video Wilma!
