Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

And you know what, since this got me in such a good mood, I’ll throw in something extra, also appropriate (via Gabemac’s Viral Video site).

Once I was biking around my neighborhood here in Los Angeles and ran into Jemaine on his bicycle. It’s always fun to run into celebrities, but a celebrity on a bicycle is just plain awesome.
Then Jemaine is indeed one of the hyper kool celebs, Bekka!
I remember sitting on a terrace in Amsterdam on one sunny winter afternoon, in the company of my family, when my mom suddenly hissed: “Look!” I looked and saw what back then had become a common scene to us locals…Brad Pitt riding past with Jennifer Aniston on the back, Dutch style.
Recently I saw pics of him and Angelina & kids, all on regular but cool bikes, all chill. I like that. Don’t care much for celebs’ lives etc, but I like that.

That series is amazing - unfortunately, we don’t have HBO, but we’ve seen clips here and there on youtube and other places :)
I thought this one was particularly funny - and of course you posted it because of the bikes, I’m sure :)
That Obama/McCain video is ridiculous :) I can’t wait for this election to be over… seems like an inordinately manipulation-based campaign… I’m tired of politics.
Guess I should go for a bike ride to relieve the stress :D
I have a bittorrent page with all episodes, if you like :-p
Hell yeah, the bikes! Ha!
I think the video is awesome, not because of politics (yeah, it’s getting under my skin too), but for it’s execution. Pretty nifty.
Go on that ride anyway, Dave, go.

Oh yeah, i know the video isn’t really related to politics, and it is quite funny :) - it just reminded me of all the stupid TV ads I see every day right now with all the candidates saying horrible and mostly untrue things about each other.
I think I will go on that ride - I hope so. It’s beautiful outside today.
I’m a passionate political animal, following US politics since I don’t know when (oh yeah, since I left NYC), but I gotta say (at the risk of sucking myself into a discussion) that ‘mostly untrue things’ are not a balanced thing. The McCain campaign spits out ridiculous lies and isn’t shy of fear-mongering or outright bigotry.
That’s it. Be well :). Go ride. Clear your mind.

Well, I have to agree with you on that point :) Sorry to drag you into politics :D

on a more bicycle-related note, I have a couple more videos up at http://poetas.blip.tv/
It’s ok, Dave, all part of life…we just have to proceed with moderation :).
Thanks for letting me watch the videos! Nr 2 was poetic! The music was excellent. The fog, the other cyclists overtaking you and weaving in, and at that last stretch I was intrigued by the flickering red light slowly disappearing..nope, still there. Gone. Nope, still there. Also, I’m sure you’re very comfortable about those others overtaking you at twice your speed. At least you don’t have to change clothes, carry wipe-me-downs or take a shower :-p.
And a nice ride to the grocery store. You can tell your wife really enjoys the Electra!

It’s true, I don’t mind :)
It’s been nice for me actually riding in Portland, because it’s forced me to be ok with riding slower and enjoying my ride, rather than trying to keep up with everyone else on the road. Therefore, the position becomes more my own :)
We both love our Electras - I would definitely recommend them to others in the U.S. who are interested in a utility-style bike, but aren’t sure they’re ready to spring for the hefty price tag of an imported Azor or Velorbis or whatever.
I was of course, completely taken in by the second vid - right up to the point that Sarah Palin made her appearance. Just goes to show - you can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but never all of the people all of the time. Let’s hope that applies to this year’s election . . .
