Just an Amsterdam native who won't take his city and its cycling extravaganza for granted anymore, thinking these posts might be clues to others, inspiration perhaps, if you will...

It really puts a smile on your face…even when you realize you went the wrong way for 3 kilometers :-p.
It’s the smile on the face that’s the icing on the cake. People get so worthy about cycling. It’s convenient . . . it’s good for the environment . . . it keeps you fit . . . blah blah blah. Tell it to someone who cares, ‘cos when you get right down to it, cycling’s just the best kind of fun.
Karl, your video is brilliant. Everybody! Watch it! Dry-humor-and-stiff-upper-lip alert!
:-p

:D that’s a great video :) I agree, I’ve never enjoyed my commute to/from work as much as I do on a bike. I actually look forward to the mornings, so I can go ride (getting to work is another question…) :)

well, it does look a lot like a Dutch bike, especially in the video. I have, however, seen a number of Azors on the road and parked around town lately… probably 3 or 4 this month (which is pretty good considering the average bike you usually see around Portland, as well as the price of an Azor in town) :)
Of course I was only kidding. An Electra Amsterdam is absolutely fine by me, it’s very easy on the eyes.
Your Azor average is not bad at all, for all the reasons you state. I hope CleverCycles will boom some more the coming years :-p

I hope they boom too - they sell a lot of beautiful bikes including Pashley, Retrovelo and of course Azor. It’s the only shop in town that I’ve found so far that doesn’t focus on sport riding, which is really nice. I just got a really great set of Basil brand canvas pannier bags there that I’m loving so far. Not to mention they were much cheaper than smaller polyester bags from companies such as Ortlieb or Jandd (go Basil!). We also got our Widek bells there :) Who knows, maybe eventually our bikes will end up being half Dutch parts anyway :D
By the way, how do you get your smiley faces to *not* turn into emoticons?
Yay on Basil! I recently found out about them through Austin Bike Blog. Handy, as I would finally be able to answer all those e-mails about where to get those panniers in the US. So, do me a favor, spread the word! :-p
I’ve changed the settings, so they won’t turn up at all. I managed by not using letters at the end.

Yeah, Clever Cycles carries nearly the full line of Basil bags and baskets I think - they have a huge selection of them. So, if anyone in Portland ever asks, you can tell them :) Unfortunately, they don’t have them in their online store yet, but maybe someday.
