Hello amsterdamize,

I check your site often and enjoy the banter between you and Mikael!

Your site site is one of our links as well;

www.gazellebicycles.com.au/menu/links.html

We import Gazelle bicycles into Australia. Any chance you can you add our link somewhere in your link section?

We are passionately trying to establish a city bike culture in Australia but we are bit behind!

http://www.gazellebicycles.com.au/

If you can, thanks!

Cycle safe,

Paul van Bellen

This morning I took a longer look at the people sitting in that long traffic jam leading into town...I think one of them smiled back at my sympathetic facial expression :)

Happy to oblige, Sigrid!

I love those moments you would not see if you and the other folks were all in cars...a group dressed up with balloons...pregnant and being given a ride by a dapper chap. And of course, two very strange gentleman riding around Amsterdam with bicycles and cameras - looks like tourists to me. :) You have inspired my morning as always, thank you.

2005 Amsterdam for the first time I was sitting outside a bar with Ron my Dutch friend and being a bike type of person I was just amazed why everyone rode these Granny bikes , there had to be something to it. So back home I dug up an old Grandad bike hub gears, chainguard lights carrier and the rest, then put some new handlebars on to get rid of a small stretch. Well what a change suddenly cycling to everywhere became so easy no sweat, no change of clothes, no bicycle clips ( that you always lose anyway) no lights in your pocket, no traffic jams, no breathliser ( for just one or two) no waiting for taxis at night, no looking for parking and then walking 15 mins back. Cycling is door to door and very social the amount of strangers you talk to at the lights surprises me. Anyway I rant great site well done

Suweet, Adrienne, I can so picture that, knowing Market St very well. Of course I expect to see the accompanying pictures when I go to your Flickr page. :)

Anything we can do, while having some fun ;). It's a weird but pleasant feeling to have any kind of impact on things. You make it extra worthwhile!

That's great news, Wilma, you're certainly on the right track. Yes, we've been there, done that and now take it for granted. A bit ahead, we learned through trial and error, but in theory that means that others could speed up the process (relatively), no real need to completely reinvent the wheel, so to speak.

Well, gentlemen, you will be happy to know that on Thursday A.M. there were twice as many bikes as cars on SF's Market Street! The world is slowly shifting, with you guys helping to turn the tide!

Thank you!

What a treat. I love watching the two of you! I keep reminding myself that I will be riding a bike in Amsterdam in the not-so-distant future! And in the mean time, I'm happy to report that bicycling in Spokane is better this year than it was last year. The city is in the process of adopting a Master Bike Plan which will provide for infrastructure enhancements including bike lanes, dedicated paths (shared use with pedestrians, but still a vast improvement over current roads), parking, and encouragements for businesses to promote bike commuting. The city is in the process of hiring a bicycle/pedestrian coordinator as a full time position. To have a professional dedicated to making things happen will be a wonderful thing! I know it will take a long time for us to catch up to Amsterdam, you've been working on it for more than thirty years, and started quite a bit ahead of where we are now. Still, these little steps give me hope!

This last week we participated in Bike To Work Week, and it was fun to see all the different types of people who are excited about the possibilities of riding your bike not just for sport, but for everyday transportation.
