Tomorrow I’ll be on my way to New York City, a long anticipated journey. I didn’t plan this as a cycling trip, nor am I off on a US speaking tour like some are accustomed to :).

I know, I know…of course(!) I’m going to hop on a two-wheeled friend while there, would be crazy not to. The last time I rode around Manhattan was 1992, pretty much the equivalent of the Wild Wild West, dominated by bike messengers. So much has happened in the last few years, so many different takes on the changes I’ve read/followed online, that I naturally need to see and experience this for myself. Luckily, hail to the internets, there’s a big chance that I won’t be riding alone.

I’m aware it’s a short notice, but if you happen to live on that lovely island, have time and feel like joining us on Friday afternoon, drop me a line!

Now I can’t help but hope I’ll catch Famke Jansen riding around the only way she knows how…Dutch-style. Does anyone of you know her regular route? :). The odds for this to happen are much greater than, say, bumping into & identifying BikesnobNYC ;-p.

Famke Jansen going Dutch in NYC

  • The suited bicyclist in the first photo reminded me of the LVMH chairman's photo in the New York Times, seen riding an opafiets:

Perhaps you'll take a trip to Chicago, soon!

  • ah, my favorite post of the NYT, nurtured with my photos :)

You never know, Steven, I'll be sure to give you a heads up.
  • Whoa, I never looked at that slideshow. I do recognize all the photos. That's awesome. Did NYT contact you about the photos or did you license them with Creative Commons?
  • I figured that, like so many others before you ;), although it has been listed since on the side of the blog ('Publications, mentions & conferences'). Yes, they contacted me and asked how I liked to be credited etc, so all good. Earlier, I had helped out the Dutch Consulate in NYC for the NY400 event, so I thought I'd go along with this one, too :).
  • Yes, visit Chicago! I'll show you around.
  • Looking forward to that, Dottie!
  • I love NYC. The only place other than SF I have ever given serious thought to living in the US.
  • I feel quite the same, Adrienne, a slight edge for SF, though...yeah, hills and everything, I know, right?! :)
  • Huge edge here! What are you talking about? : )
  • hahaha, sssssshhhhhh, not too loud :)
  • In my modest opinion, SFO has a huge edge over pretty much anywhere in world...
  • Beaux Rivage
Stop over in New Orleans....It's a great Bicycle City.
  • I wish, Beaux, I so wish I could!

Check Out this video and you will see what I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzVCHv6FSbg
  • thanks for that, Beaux, I know and love that video, as I've been following NOLA (and the cycle scene) for quite some time, I posted about the film Trouble The Water last year. A few readers of mine from New Orleans actually started their own cycle videoblog because of Amsterdamize Bicycle TV. One of them is Kate, who runs A View From My Bike.

I'd certainly love to post more about New Orleans and its (cycle) vibe.
    Cheers,
    Marc
  • SueWithoutHelmet
I have just discovered you - someone pointed me to you!!!! your site is brilliant!

i live in australia and have to combat helmet laws (which i'm doing like some wild banshee through the court system) - at this stage i have a criminal conviction for the crime of 'ride bicycle without helmet' but i plan to keep making a song and a dance about it!! - for the sake of my poor family and dear friends i have started a blog for 'babbling away' purposes - they had all become heartily sick of me - oh dear! www.freedomcyclist.blogspot.com
  • Thanks, appreciate it, Sue! I found out about your tale on Copenhagenize and I hope you case will have the outcome it deserves, this world needs more sanity! :)

    Cheers,
    Marc
