Work is done. It’s a warm & sunny evening. Taking it easy. Grab a bag with picnic goodies and flick it in a basket. Stop along the way to pick up some tasty burgers & find that sweet spot in the sun. That’s what Lauren and I did not too long ago.

* It’s been pouring this last week, so it’s only fitting that I’d edit and post this today, to keep our spirits up :).

In my eyes they are giving away a lot of bikes and thats awfully nice and progressive of them (and probably quite expensive). I believe they are giving away the Personal Bike which makes sense since it is the most durable (and hardly cheap). It may not make history in Holland (who cares?), but you can bet it will make history in NYC. NYC is craving real city bikes and the very sight of them in Manhattan is simply revolutionary. Dutch bikes represent a cycling paradigm beyond the fixed gear kids who currently dominate the NYC streets. Add enough fashionable New Yorkers in their heels and suits visiting the MoMA on their bikes and you’ve changed the entire way Americans view bicycles. And believe me, Obama on a Dutch bike while giving GM orders is a paradigm shift if I ever saw one. America is hungry for this stuff and Batavus knows it. Good for them. They’re smart.

Thanks for your input, Eric. I’m very aware of all that. This blog is basically about ‘exporting’ cycling behaviour/culture and hell, I lived in NYC myself, so I care.

However smashing their entire PR plan, or the intent thereof looks (as no PR scheme goes according to plan 100%), I still think the lacking 200 is a missed opportunity (which in itself would also be beneficiary to NYC).

Brilliant :) Seeing as it poured down rain all weekend here as well, it’s nice to have a good reminder of that warm sunshine here as well, though today it seems like the clouds are burning off a bit, so maybe we’ll have to go grill some sausages at the park :)
